Jacob Nguni is fast becoming the god father of African Musicians. He has succeeded where others have failed.
By his association with great African musicians the world over, his expertise in encouraging them to produce good and quality music, his partciciaption in the production of music from The Congo, Cameroon,Nigeria , East Africa and the Caribian makes him a colossus in the field of music. It is no wonder therefore that many of the great names in Afro- Caribian music are turning to him to produce their music and assist them in their march towards perfection in their musical career.
When I arrive Freetown Sierra Leone lately, upon learning that I came from Cameroon , one of the great artists of the latest hits "bobo belle" asked me if I knew Jacob Nguni. When I answered in the positive, he told me that his greatest ambition in music has been to master the guitar Jacob does.
Again in Lagos, a close acquintance of the great Charlie Boy asked me if I could get him in contact of Jacob and that since Jacob left Nigeria there has been no guitar wisard as he called Jacob to feel the gap left behind by him.On a recent trip to Zanzibar I spot in Dar es Salaam, and met a musician with the great Oldovi Band and he made the same enquiries about Jacob. What makes Jacob an emerging household name among African musicians is what puzzles only the informed.
Jacob, I salute the genius in you just as I did with Cardinal Jims Rex Lawson in an article in The Guardian during the week long festivities celebrating his genius by the Rivers State and Bayelssa state Governments last year.
May your contribution in music continue to bless the spirit of many. But above all I salute that magical distinguished guitar sound that makes Sweet Mother like rex Lawson's music before, the music will live for ever.
